iM PRIHATIN

CONCERNED over the alarming rise of social ills in Malaysia, non-governmental organisation iM prihatin will publish a book entitled Yang Buas, Terbuang, Terbiar (The Violent, The Dumped, The Abandoned) or the "3B book" by the end of the year to instill awareness on these issues among Malaysians.

Set up early this year by a group of intellectuals and academicians, the organisation aims to curb social issues like abandonment of babies, child abuse, and immoral activities like incest and drug trafficking.

iM prihatin secretary Soekarno Talib, in a recent press conference, said the 160-page publication contained reports, information and photos from the nation's leading mass media and resource centres.

The organisation will work with a well-known local publishing company to market the books.

"Our target readers are those from government departments and agencies, universities and colleges, schools, and other avid readers," said Soekarno.

Soekarno also said that leading figures who have contributed articles to the 3B book include former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Associate Professor Dr Mohamed Fadzil Che Din, motivational speaker Datuk Dr Fadzilah Khamsah and silver screen producer Datuk David Teo.

"We hope to distribute 50,000 copies of the book nationwide," he said.
"Sadly, Johor was ranked the second highest among other states with 83 reported cases of baby dumping in the past five years.

"The state recorded 600 cases of child abuse during the same period," said Soekarno.

iM prihatin's next activity is a theatre drama entitled Abang, Abang Oh Abang (Oh Dear Brother) directed by Mohd Razif Hj. Adnan which will be held at 12th - 14th. December 2010.
